My own Canadian family line began with John Weatherup and his wife Mary Hendren both of Glenavy Parish, Antrim Northern Ireland.
Over the coming weeks I plan to publish, where space permits, many of the Weatherup -Hendren family records I have accumulated during researching my novel 'Living in Hope'. I hope that visitors to this page will find them useful and I am only too happy to try to help you if you are a related family trying to trace out your own family tree. Feel free to contact me at admin@mayflowermaid.com if you are searching for any family history item in particular as I may have it.
The Weatherup name has been written in many different ways over time - even over one person's lifetime!
My own ancestor John Weatherup was baptized as John Withropp- but on records confirmed as belonging to him he has also been called Witherop, Wetherhope, Withrup, Wetherip, Wetherop, Wetherup, Weatherup. So please bear this in mind when trying to search out your own 'Weatherups'. It is my firm belief that all of the Ontario Weatherups / Wetherup/ Witherups are a part of this same family and originated in Antrim.
As with Weatherup- the name Hendren is also often spelt Hendron or Hendrin. I believe that all of the Hendrens settled atPeterboroughin Dummer and then Lakefield in the mid 1800's are of the same family of John Weatherup's wife, Mary Hendren and her brother Thomas who came to Canada in 1832.
