'Almost at days end, in the glow of the fast setting they saw red-bricked Tattersall Castle rising up like a great glowing ember before them. Beyond that, the vast flatness of the fenlands swiftly opened up. This was a mystical, magical sight, yet at the same time, an unnerving one with just the hint of impending menace. If the group were to avoid another night sleeping out at the mercy of the elements, they would have cross the drawbridge and be asked to let inside. Once they had though, then they would be at the utter mercy of its occupants, unable to leave at will or of their own volition. With the drawbridge  raised up behind them, they would be as helpless as a rabbit snapped tight in a fox’s jaws...'
